Good Organization Skills Can Develop Into Good Study Habits.

Below are steps you can follow to develop good study habits.

When, Where, And What To Study - One thing to avoid is studying late at night. The reason for this is that it is a well know fact the human brain normally does not work well after a full day of exertion. The student should develop a plan on when, where, and what to study. It is very beneficial to study class material as soon as possible after attending a class. Studying soon after attending a class will help the student retain or remember more of the class information because the material is still fresh in their mind.

It is important to select a good study place. The area should be well lit, at comfortable room temperature, and plenty of space to spread your study material. This could increase concentration, as well increasing retention. Study in a non-social area.

We mentioned, in the e-book Time Management, that if you have spare time, you should use it wisely. For example: at lunch, read a chapter or two of your book (English, History, etc.), thus cutting your study time and use the extra time to enjoy doing things you like. Spare time is the key to eliminate cramming at the last minute.

It is important to decide what to study. Begin with an idea on how you can accomplish things. What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to clarify a lesson or learn a specific formula. These goals should be reachable for you to value the time you spent. Early during the day, study a very complicated material while your mind is still fresh.

Never Study Too Long (Take Breaks Frequently)- Take breaks while studying and increase comprehension. Have a twenty to thirty minutes of study and have a break. Studying too long can cause you not to absorb a lot of information.

Study With Other Students - Studying with other students that are taking the same course study could be very beneficial. However, the student should select others whom they respect and can study with effectively. If the student studies with others that what to socialize more than study, the study-time may not be beneficial.

Do not think that sudying with a friend of yours in front of the TV is the same as actually buckling down and really studying the subject!

Make sure to study with people that can actually help you in the subject, not just a good buddy! This way a question you have may be something they already know.

Make sure to actually understand what you are reading, it’s so easy to let your mind wander.

By making your own study habits you will increase effectiveness of your comprehension because it will be what works for you!
