The process of repairing your credit is done through a series of dispute letters which are sent to the three main credit bureaus. You should also send a letter of dispute to your creditors. The goal is to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
The sad truth is the credit bureaus often don’t have the time or motivation to justify the validity of your dispute. Because most employees at the credit bureaus are so over worked a ton of mistakes occur. In turn they never bother to double check the information that they are reselling.

When you attempt to dispute an item, the credit bureau passes that information on to the creditor. The creditor looks the information up in their database, and whatever it says they report back to the bureaus. What that means is that a lot of incorrect information is floating around out there and it is up to you to correct it.
