Beware Of The Credit Repair Con
As the credit crunch really takes hold, it is perhaps not surprising that folk who have managed to borrow large amounts of money through the years of plenty will find it more and more difficult to stay on top of their financial affairs. Lots of people nowadays are starting to experience difficulties in making their regular debt repayments. Worse still, with rising unemployment this situation may well deteriorate before it begins to improve.
Is it any wonder therefore that with an increasing level of debt default more and more people are looking to undertake some form of credit repair program in order to put their finances back in order. This is perfectly sound practice and generally speaking should be applauded. Unfortunately it does make such folk uniquely vulnerable to the fraudsters out there who are looking to take advantage of peoples vulnerabilities for their own personal gain.
So to what am I referring? Well, I am referring to the sort of advertising, on the web or via email by so-called credit repair companies who seem to be making very attractive claims in respect of what they can do to help you get out of your particular credit difficulties. How do you tell that the claim is indeed a false one? Good question. In fact there are a number of tell-tale signals you should be aware of before getting involved with such companies.
Firstly, the phrase - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is - is an extremely useful aid when making your decision. The more dramatic the apparent improvement the company claims they can make to your credit status, the more you should be suspicious. If they are claiming to be able to erase, or have removed adverse items outstanding on your credit report, then they are almost certainly lying.
How does the advert read? Is it very salesy - does it bombard you with apparently overwhelming claims of the veracity of their claims. In short, is it spam? Does the email address, if provided look as though it comes from a legitimate business, or does it look like a web-mail account? If there is a website, what is its address? Is there a proper contact page, together with a bricks and mortar address? If you are not happy with the answer to any of these questions then you may well be looking at the credit repair scam.
Finally, under no circumstances should you agree to pay the company a fee in advance, nor, if they seem to be offering a debt consolidation package should you do sign up without first taking independent advice. You may never see your money again if you pay a fee in advance and attempts to contact the fraudsters will most likely prove futile. And the debt consolidation loan is likely to pay a big fee to the fraudster but leave you with a usurious rate of interest on the debt with the distinct possibility that you will be in worse financial difficulties than before.
Fortunately, you should know that instigate the process of credit repair. It is not very expensive, the steps you have to undertake are not complex and with a bit of effort and a bit of patience you will soon start to experience the very real benefits that can be achieved repairing your own credit.
